\nMackenyu is the talk of the town. He plays his first lead role in a Hollywood production as Pegasus Seiya in the upcoming film \u201cKnights of the Zodiac.\u201d In addition, he is attached to the much-awaited Netflix original series, \u201cONE PIECE,\u201d as Roronora Zora. We explored the true face of this rising star.<\/p>\n

It didn\u2019t take too long for the world to discover Mackenyu. His first lead role in a Hollywood production\u2013Tomasz Bagi\u0144ski\u2019s \u201cKnights of the Zodiac\u201d–will be released this April. From his rich facial expressions and well-honed body to the spectacular action sequences, Mackenyu masterfully breathes life into this film, inspired by the legendary Japanese action comic of the same name.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce I left Japan, I realized there\u2019s so much possibility in the rest of the world. A Japanese actor like myself got to play the lead in a Hollywood production. That\u2019s proof that all Japanese actors have a shot at something bigger.\u201d<\/p>\n

Born and raised in the US and trained in the Japanese film world, Mackenyu is leaping onto the global stage. He was determined to be a Japanese actor, believed in his potential, and made his dream come true. He exudes confidence, as though his eyes are forever laser-focused on the future. We caught up with the true face of the strong, beautiful, and somewhat mysterious Mackenyu.<\/p>\n

\n\u2500\u2500What\u2019s your favorite song?<\/strong>
\nI like anything playing on American radio stations. We played the radio on car rides when I was a kid. I\u2019ve been listening to the radio ever since. If I like something playing, I\u2019ll look it up for later.<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500If you had a week off, what would you do?<\/strong>
\nI\u2019d want to just veg out. But I probably can\u2019t. I\u2019ll probably end up going to the gym! I don\u2019t know if I can take a whole week off.<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500What if you had three months off?<\/strong>
\nThat would be awesome! If I had three months off, I\u2019d travel abroad. Italy, Hawaii, and maybe South Korea. I went to Italy once and loved it. Hawaii is guaranteed fun. And South Korea is super close!<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500If you could buy anything, what would you want?<\/strong>
\nI\u2019m not a materialistic person. If I had to buy something, I\u2019d get myself a new property. I\u2019m scared of earthquakes, so I don\u2019t want to live in highrise apartments, so I\u2019d get a house.<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500What was your childhood dream?<\/strong>
\nTo be an American cop or a lawyer.<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500What would you give yourself if you were to grade yourself out of 100?<\/strong>
\n100!<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500What do you do to unwind?<\/strong>
\nI go to the gym, play games or play with my dog.<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500What are you obsessed with right now?<\/strong>
\nThis game called \u201cRainbow Six Siege.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500Do you cook?<\/strong>
\nI cook quite a bit. If there\u2019s anything I want to make, I call my mom for recipes. I recently made a quinoa salad. You toss avocado, tomato, broccoli, asparagus, and some good quality meat with salt, black pepper, and olive oil.<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500What\u2019s always in your fridge?<\/strong>
\nTabasco. I put it on everything.<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500What would your last supper be?<\/strong>
\nYakiniku (grilled meat) or shabushabu. Sometimes I go to yakiniku five times a week.<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500Are you meticulous or laidback?<\/strong>
\nI\u2019d say I\u2019m right in the middle. If I have time, I\u2019m pretty meticulous. But when I don\u2019t have time, I\u2019m a mess!<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500What\u2019s your favorite movie?<\/strong>
\nThat\u2019s a tough one. I like \u201cSession\u201d, \u201cSully: Miracle on the Hudson\u201d and \u201cAmerican Sniper.\u201d There\u2019s probably more, but those came to mind immediately.<\/p>\n

\nHaruma Miura.<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500What\u2019s the last movie you watched in a movie theater?<\/strong>
\nI think \u201cSpiderman.\u201d I watched it in South Africa. It was super good.<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500What\u2019s the last book you read?<\/strong>
\nI don\u2019t read things apart from scripts (laughter).<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500What\u2019s your favorite color?<\/strong>
\nTiffany blue. But it\u2019s not like I have a lot of things in that color or use it in my home. So I just kind of like it as a color.<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500What\u2019s your three-step morning routine?<\/strong>
\nI feed my dog, take a shower and brush my teeth.<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500What do you always do before bed?<\/strong>
\nI\u2019ve been really into Imagawayaki lately. I train and then eat a crispy Imagawayaki before bed.<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500When was the last time you cried?<\/strong>
\nWhile filming \u201cONE PIECE\u201d (upcoming Netflix original series). I cried as a part of my performance.<\/p>\n

\u2500\u2500What\u2019s your favorite place you have traveled to?<\/strong>
\nMaybe South Korea.<\/p>\n

\nI want to challenge myself with a more challenging role.<\/p>\n
